Last week when news broke that the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) told parliament that due to budget cuts by National Treasury, more than 87,000 university students will lose their funding, many students raised fears that they may not get funding in the new year. If you remember a few weeks ago, we received a call from Unisa’s SRC President Nkosinathi: Mabilane talking about the plight of UNISA students who rely on the scheme as some did not receive their monthly allowances finding themselves stranded.
